Food getting stuck in your teeth is a common problem that most people have. It is understandable, since there are a lot of gaps. In most cases there really is no way to avoid it. A lot of the time you can just remove these pieces with your tongue or with a toothpick.
For the harder to reach areas, it is important to thoroughly brush or even start flossing. When it comes to wisdom teeth, however, this can end up being a little more trouble.
What Foods Get Stuck to Wisdom Teeth?
There are a lot of different foods that can end up getting stuck to your wisdom teeth and causing problems down the line. Often these foods are the same ones that can get stuck in any other kind of tooth. The only difference is that the wisdom teeth are a lot harder to reach and therefore can cause issues if you are unable to get rid of them.
Ribs and pulled pork, for example, often have stringy bits that will immediately get stuck in the small spaces between your teeth. The shells of popcorn kernels do as well, and these can sometimes be particularly painful. Any kind of fruit that has small seeds is also going to pose a very high risk. Sticky foods such as caramels can also get stuck to the enamel.
When it comes to wisdom teeth, you need to be extra careful. Impacted wisdom teeth (which have only half emerged) tend to be the worst offenders for this. In fact, a lot of people will recommend you get them removed.
