How to Prepare Your Fridge for Oral Surgery Recovery

Posted on 9/20/2018 by Scott Redlinger
How to Prepare Your Fridge for Oral Surgery RecoveryIf you are scheduled to have oral surgery, we probably advised that you will be eating a soft diet for the first few days until you can resume a regular diet. Immediately after surgery, you will be sore and uncomfortable. You will only be able to eat soft foods that require minimal chewing.

Preparing your fridge for oral surgery before the procedure will ensure you have all the staples you will need without having to visit the grocery store during your recovery.

Foods to Eat After Oral Surgery

Depending on how you feel after your oral surgery, you will be very limited in the foods you can eat. To tolerate pain medication and stay strong, we recommend you eat at least some food the first day.

How to prepare your fridge for oral surgery will depend on what you like, but here are a few popular choices:

•  Ice cream
•  Applesauce
•  Cottage cheese
•  Pudding
•  Mashed potatoes
•  Protein drinks
•  Soups
•  Noodles
•  Rice
•  Cooked vegetables
•  Coconut water or hydrating beverages
•  Cold packs
•  Milk
•  Fruit juices
•  Yogurt

It's important to keep a balanced diet as much as possible. You will not be able to chew on anything for a few days, sometimes up to a week, depending on the surgery's difficulty and how sore you are. To add all the nutrition possible, you can plan on making foods that are easier to eat without chewing, such as vegetable soups.

You can either make these at home or buy the canned variety. Meats will be too difficult to chew and will leave particles that can get caught in the dry socket, so you will have to adjust how you eat and use the front teeth to do so.

One of the best things you can do to prepare for oral surgery is stock up on foods you will eat while you recover. If you want more suggestions, please ask us!
