How We Can Help You Prevent Denture Problems

Posted on 8/23/2018 by Scott Redlinger
How We Can Help You Prevent Denture ProblemsDentures are an important choice for people with missing teeth. Just like with anything else, you must take care of your dentures to prevent problems with the appliance in the future.

We will give you instructions on cleaning and storing your dentures while you are not using them to make them last for many years.

Most Common Denture Problems

Wearing dentures can help your mouth function normally and they allow you to eat and speak without difficulty. However, as time passes some problems with fitting or cracking of the dentures can happen if you are not careful.

•  Loose fitting dentures happen when the appliance starts to move around in the mouth. This is not only uncomfortable because the denture can dislodge while you eat, but it can also irritate the gum tissue the denture sits on. Make sure you let us know if you feel your dentures are loose and we will adjust them or suggest you use an adhesive.
•  Mouth infections occur when the dentures are not cleaned properly at night. Just like natural teeth, you must wash and rinse your dentures every night to avoid problems and keep your mouth healthy.
•  Gum irritation from loose dentures is common. If the denture doesn't fit comfortably it can start to rub against the gum causing it to be sore.
•  Bone loss happens when you wear the denture around the clock. Your mouth needs a break from your dentures and you should always remove them to relieve the pressure on the bone.

These tips can help you prevent denture problems. It's important that you let us know if you feel the dentures moving so we can adjust or suggest another method of securing them to fit more snugly. In some cases, you will need to replace them.
